Star of the Week: YOU!! AND introducing International You Deserve A Gold Star Day!

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

Welcome to Gold Star Friday! It's time to announce our Star of the Week!

Future Stars of the Week will be chosen from reader nominations!  But since we are at the beginning of this project, I will be the one nominating our Friday Star of the Week until the time when nominations from readers start to roll in.

Please send me your nominations, and please see the end of this post for more details on how to do that!  All recipients of the Star of the Week award who live in the US can choose to receive a free gift from my Gold Star Award Winner collection** on Zazzle!

This week's star has been percolating inside my brain for a while . . . . At some point in the early days of this project, I thought that it would be super cool to honor everyone with a gold star!

I am sure that you can think of a few people who in your opinion do not deserve a gold star, but I also think that you would agree with me when I say that most of us are truly trying to do our best day after day. We have good intentions the vast majority of the time, even if we don't execute those intentions in an ideal manner.

So without any further ado, I am very happy to announce that today's Star of the Week is YOU!!!

You deserve a gold star just for being who you are! You deserve a gold star for getting out of bed every day and working hard to be a good human being. You really do. You are worthy. And you are loved.

I feel so strongly about the public need for recognition of the worthiness of all human beings that I am working to establish an International You Deserve A Gold Star Day!!!!⭐

The first celebration of this holiday will take place this Sunday, January 31st, 2021 and it will be celebrated on January 31st every year hereafter!

I spent a good deal of time contemplating the best date for this holiday. I thought that the end of January would be ideal because this tends to be a time of the year when many of us are down on ourselves.

At this point, we've lost our holiday glow (if we ever had one to begin with). For those of us in the United States, particularly those of us in the north and on the east coast, we are in the middle of winter. We've been through a couple of months of cold weather, and many of us are tired of it! But it will still be awhile before we come out on the other side. And it gets dark out so early. Frankly, the end of January can be pretty depressing.

Even if you aren't in the US, this is also the time of year when many people get depressed about not making better progress on their New Year's resolutions/goals. An entire month has gone by now, but what have we accomplished?

This is the point of the year when the majority of us collectively throw up our hands and give up. Many people's resolutions never continue past that January 31st end-of-the-month marker. In fact, research indicates that the day most people are likely to give up on their New Year's resolutions is January 19th.

My feeling is that this is THE time of the year when the most number of people would get the most benefit from receiving a gold star. You are a wonderful person whether you fulfill your New Year's resolutions or not! I want people to remember that!

I tried to think of another date that would benefit a lot of people all at once, but all the other days I considered felt less meaningful to me.

So I hope that you will support me in my efforts to establish January 31st as International You Deserve A Gold Star Day! I have even created a petition that I would be honored to have you sign.***

And please help me spread the word to your friends and family! I hope to eventually submit the holiday for recognition on websites like the National Day Calendar.

I realize that I haven't given you much notice to have a proper inaugural celebration, but I hope that you might be inspired to give a gold star to someone you care about on the 31st, whether it's something as simple as a compliment, a text, or even a handwritten note.

And, of course, you should absolutely take some time to appreciate yourself! Take an inventory of all your fabulous qualities and all the wonderful things that you do for your family, your friends, and your community on a daily basis!

I will be thinking about all of you on Sunday, and it would truly make my day to hear about anything you decide to do to celebrate this holiday! Please tell us about it in the comments!

I am honored that you are on this journey with me, and I will be telepathically be sending you all a gold star!!! ⭐⭐⭐
