You Deserve A Gold Star Day Is Almost Here!

Hello Gold Star Squad!

I am already violating my new rules by posting earlier than I said I would! But I realized that I just had to get something out to remind you that International You Deserve A Gold Star Day is just around the corner!

This holiday, which was created by yours truly, is celebrated annually on January 31st!

I wrote a post about You Deserve A Gold Star Day last year, and, rather than reinvent the wheel, I am simply going to repost most of what I wrote in my original post. If you end up celebrating this holiday, even in some small way, I would love it if you would come back to this post and leave a comment about what you did. And if you want to leave a comment today about how you plan to celebrate, that would be awesome as well!

Without any further ado, here is last year's post (with some minor edits)!

At some point in the early days of this project, I thought that it would be super cool to honor everyone with a gold star!

I am sure that you can think of a few people who in your opinion do not deserve a gold star, but I also think that you would agree with me when I say that most of us are truly trying to do our best day after day. We have good intentions the vast majority of the time, even if we don't execute those intentions in an ideal manner.

You deserve a gold star just for being who you are! You deserve a gold star for getting out of bed every day and working hard to be a good human being. You really do. You are worthy. And you are loved.

I feel so strongly about the public need for recognition of the worthiness of all human beings that I am working to establish an International You Deserve A Gold Star Day!!!! ⭐

The first celebration of this holiday will take place on Sunday, January 31st, 2021 and it will be celebrated on January 31st every year hereafter!

I spent a good deal of time contemplating the best date for this holiday. I thought that the end of January would be ideal because this tends to be a time of the year when many of us are down on ourselves.

At this point, we've lost our holiday glow (if we ever had one to begin with). For those of us in the United States, particularly those of us in the north and on the east coast, we are in the middle of winter. We've been through a couple of months of cold weather, and many of us are tired of it! But it will still be awhile before we come out on the other side. And it gets dark out so early. Frankly, the end of January can be pretty depressing.

Even if you aren't in the US, this is also the time of year when many people get depressed about not making better progress on their New Year's resolutions/goals. An entire month has gone by now, but what have we accomplished?

This is the point of the year when the majority of us collectively throw up our hands and give up. Many people's resolutions never continue past that January 31st end-of-the-month marker. In fact, research indicates that the day most people are likely to give up on their New Year's resolutions is January 19th.

My feeling is that this is THE time of the year when the most number of people would get the most benefit from receiving a gold star. You are a wonderful person whether you fulfill your New Year's resolutions or not! I want people to remember that!

I tried to think of another date that would benefit a lot of people all at once, but all the other days I considered felt less meaningful to me.

So I hope that you will support me in my efforts to establish January 31st as International You Deserve A Gold Star Day! I have even created a petition to get the holiday acknowledged publicly that I would be honored to have you sign.***

And please help me spread the word to your friends and family! I hope to eventually submit the holiday for recognition on websites like the National Day Calendar.

I hope that this post will inspire you to give a gold star to someone you care about on the 31st. It doesn't have to be something elaborate!!! It can be as simple as a text, a compliment, or even a handwritten note.

And, of course, you should absolutely take some time to appreciate yourself! Take an inventory of all your fabulous qualities and all the wonderful things that you do for your family, your friends, and your community on a daily basis!

I will be thinking about all of you on the 31st, and it would truly make my day to hear about anything you decide to do to celebrate this holiday! Please tell us about it in the comments!

I am honored that you are on this journey with me, and I will be telepathically be sending you all a gold star!!! ⭐⭐⭐

You do have to provide your home address in order to sign the petition, but it appears that it will not be sold to or shared with third parties. I also think that you will get signed up for email newsletters, which you can immediately unsubscribe from. I know it's a pain and a hassle to provide this information, but I hope that you will do it as a favor to me!
