Stars of the Week: Unnamed Providers of Kindness!

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

Hello Gold Star Revolution Squad, and welcome to Gold Star Friday! It's time for the Gold Star of the Week award!

While it is wonderful to appreciate our family and friends, it is also nice to acknowledge people we don't know all that well (or maybe who we don't know at all!) for small acts of kindness that they perform for us.

These individuals may never know that we have awarded them a gold star, but we will know it in our hearts and minds! I think that these people will somehow manage to receive our good energy – it's like putting a deposit into that person's karmic bank account that they will hopefully be able to withdraw later!

Even though I haven't been getting out much in recent days, I've still had some opportunities to appreciate the kindness of others! Here are just a few examples of some of the gold stars that I have recently awarded in my mind:

• To the very lovely customer service rep at the Wake County Department of Tax Administration who helped me get my name corrected on a property record on their website. This woman was super nice to me, and the process did not take nearly as long as I thought it would, so I definitely appreciated that!

• To the city official who stopped by the house to pick up a document rather than having us mail it in because the office we were dealing with has been having troubles with mail delivery. Such a nice thing for him to have done!

• To a new friend that I made right before the pandemic started last year. Even though we don't know each other all that well, she has been very supportive of my walking tour business by lining up some private tours, and I am extremely grateful to her for that support. I hope to get to know her better in the future!

• To the employees at the Wake County SPCA who give names to the rescue pets that come into the shelter. Every animal gets a name, and I imagine that it must be difficult to come up with new names week after week. But the SPCA employees are incredibly creative, and they come up with some really great and funny names! One that really made me laugh recently was a gerbil (yes, a gerbil) who was given the name Gerblene! I look forward to receiving the SPCA newsletter every week in part because I love to read the names of all of the recently adopted animals!

How about you dear readers? What small acts of kindness have you experienced from others recently? Why not go ahead and award them a mental gold star right now?! And let us know who you would give one to in the comments!

Well, dear readers, I have decided to pretend like I am still in college, and I am going to take some time off to celebrate spring break!

This means that the blog will be on hiatus for the rest of the month of March and the entire month of April. Hopefully I will actually get some writing done over the course of the next few weeks, unlike the last time I took time off back at the end of December and basically didn't write a thing.

I hope to return to posting on Tuesday, May 4th! Until we meet again in this space, have a happy start to your spring!
